This book attempts to decipher the entire text of "The Tale of Genji" from the perspective of Japanese linguistics. For each sentence in "The Tale of Genji," an accurate translation into modern Japanese is provided, with a grammatical explanation of why it has been interpreted that way. Non-obvious usage is always explained with examples. This work aims to be a developmental successor to Imaizumi Tadayoshi's "The Tale of Genji Glossary" and Saeki Baitomo's "The Tale of Genji Lectures." After compiling dictionaries of archaic language and classical grammar books and providing commentaries on the Hyakunin Isshu, this is the author's long-awaited culmination of his research into classical grammar. Planned for a total of 15 volumes.
