Kishu Binchotan, the technology behind which it is produced, has been designated an Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Wakayama Prefecture. It is an extremely high-quality white charcoal made from Ubamegashi oak, boasting the world's hardest and heaviest properties.
Binchotan charcoal contains countless holes of various sizes called pores, creating a highly complex porous structure. 1 gram of this charcoal occupies an area roughly equivalent to that of a tennis court.
This porous nature gives it excellent deodorizing, odor-eliminating, and humidity-removing properties, and it can even absorb and remove chlorine and other chemicals that can make tap water taste bad.
In addition, the minerals in the binchotan dissolve into the charcoal, allowing you to easily make mineral water.
