This is Part 2 of the film trilogy based on "The Lord of the Rings," a novel considered the origin of all fantasy. The film revolves around the hobbit Frodo's journey to bury the ring that holds the power to rule the world, and depicts the harsh fates of the "Fellowship of the Ring," who were separated at the end of the previous film.
Three dramas—Frodo and Sam, Pippin and Merry, and Aragorn—appear alternately, creating a fast-paced plot that keeps you entertained. The CG, which has been further improved from the previous film, vividly reproduces the expressions and movements of Gollum, the former owner of the ring. Furthermore, the Battle of Helm's Deep in the second half of the film, features an army of 10,000 people, rendered in CGI, creating a powerful and stylized scene. The most eye-catching character in Part 2 is Sam, Frodo's best friend and servant-like companion. Sam's lines at the climax of the film convey the importance of passing on courageous stories, and it's as if he's sending praise to the original novel and all of the other novels. The theme of "courage and friendship" is truly moving. (Saito Hiroaki)
