A paulownia bread box from Masuda Kiribako, a long-established paulownia box store. It is said that you can enjoy the fluffy and soft texture of the bread on the day you bought it, even after some time has passed. This bread box was created by the manufacturer, who wanted to enjoy the deliciousness of fresh bread the next day, and even the next day, after repeatedly making prototypes of a bread box that takes advantage of the moisture-controlling effect of paulownia wood.
Paulownia boxes are perfect for storing bread as they have excellent moisture control and insect repellent properties. Paulownia has a high humidity control ability to maintain a constant level of humidity, and contains ingredients (tannin, paulonin, sesamin, etc.) that keep insects away. It is effective against both humidity and dryness, allowing you to safely preserve food during the rainy and summer seasons, when you are anxious to preserve food.
When we spoke to Masuda Kiribako store, we learned that in addition to bread, it is also ideal for storing snacks that tend to get damp, such as potato chips and rice crackers, and if you store them in a bread box, they will retain their ``delicious texture'' for a long time.
Both the top and bottom plates are built-in, and no nails are used in the joints. This process allows the paulownia wood to raise its bottom without touching the ground directly, making it more hygienic to use. Paulownia is also light and soft. It's easy to carry with bread in it, and the lid opens and closes so smoothly that even small children will enjoy it.
[Recommended points about paulownia] Part 1) Insect repellent with natural ingredients: Paulownia wood contains many ingredients called "tannins" that are repelled by insects. It is also highly effective in repelling nasty dust mites, rice bugs, and insects that can puncture your precious kimonos and cashmere sweaters.
[Recommended points about paulownia] Part 2) Conditions the humidity as if paulownia breathes: It is said that paulownia wood breathes. Paulownia trees absorb moisture from the air when the humidity is high and release moisture when dry. Therefore, even when it is humid, the air inside the box is smoothly controlled and has an anti-mold effect. When the paulownia box absorbs moisture, it swells slightly, making the inside almost airtight. It is said that the higher the airtightness, the higher the insect repellent effect.
[Recommended points about paulownia] No. 3) A paulownia box that is resistant to disasters: The high airtightness of a paulownia box can be useful in unexpected situations. When a fire is extinguished or the box is flooded, the paulownia wood absorbs the water and swells, sealing the box tightly. It is said that when the box dries, the lid will open and the items inside will be safe. It has been said since ancient times that important things should be stored in paulownia wood boxes, and this is a masterpiece packed with the wisdom of our ancestors who used the power of nature.
